**Key Characteristics**
The Yipinxiu Green Cucumber plant has moderate growth vigor with limited branching, primarily producing vine-type fruits. The fruit is straight and cylindrical, typically measuring around 20 cm in length and 3 cm in diameter, with an average weight of about 128 grams per melon. The skin is bright green, the flavor is excellent, and the commercial value is high. It exhibits strong resistance to low temperatures, weak light, and common diseases such as wilt and downy mildew. Additionally, it shows good resistance to powdery mildew and bacterial angular spot, making it a reliable choice for farmers.
**Cultivation Techniques**
For early spring cultivation, sowing should take place between January and early February. For late autumn planting, the best time is from August to mid-September. Seedlings can be started using plug trays, nutrient cups, or soil blocks, with peat-based seedling mix being commonly used. The optimal germination temperature is 24–26°C, and seedlings usually emerge within 4 days after sowing. Once emerged, maintain daytime temperatures between 23–28°C and nighttime temperatures between 16–18°C.
In late autumn cultivation, a small greenhouse should be used over the seedbed to protect young plants. In early spring, straw mulch should be added after covering the greenhouse to provide extra insulation. During the seedling stage, water sparingly and apply foliar fertilizer through misting. Allow the seedlings to experience a short period of cooler temperatures (around 1 week) before transplanting to promote stronger growth.
Before planting, prepare the field thoroughly by applying more than 4,000 kg of organic manure per 1/15 hectare (approximately 1 mu), along with 50–80 kg of compound fertilizer. Deep plowing and sterilization are essential to ensure a healthy growing environment. Create raised beds that are 1–1.2 meters wide, and plant two rows per bed. Transplant seedlings when they have 2–4 true leaves, approximately 25–30 days old, at a density of 3,500–3,700 plants per 1/15 hectare. Water the seedlings immediately after planting.
After transplanting, water the crops once every 3–4 days initially. Thereafter, water every 5–7 days, and each watering should be accompanied by fertilization—about 10 kg of urea per 1/15 hectare. During the fruiting stage, apply 20 kg of compound fertilizer per 1/15 hectare with irrigation, and spray a 0.2–0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution once a week. Maintain air humidity at around 50% for optimal growth. Within one week of transplanting, keep daytime temperatures between 25–30°C and nighttime temperatures between 16–18°C.
To encourage a strong root system, remove all fruits and lateral branches below the fifth leaf. Once the plant develops more than five nodes, pinch off the top and leave 1–2 leaves above the fruit. Choose lateral branches based on the plant’s growth and avoid overcrowding. Support the vines with trellises and guide the tendrils to grow properly.

Prevention is key in managing diseases and pests. Regular monitoring and early intervention are crucial. Use preventive treatments whenever possible, and only apply curative measures when necessary.
