Square no watermelon production technology

The "Squareless Watermelon" represents the latest breakthrough in Wuzi Watermelon research, offering farmers a highly profitable crop with an estimated net income of RMB 1 million per mu. This innovative technique combines traditional cultivation methods with modern molding technology to produce uniquely shaped watermelons without the need for square-shaped molds. Here's a detailed overview of the production process: First, selecting the right variety is crucial. For open-field cultivation, varieties like Jinbao 1, Jinmi 1, Jinmi 2, Jinshuai 1, and Jinhui 1 are recommended. For table-sculpting, Toyota 1, Shinco 2, and Xingke 3 are ideal. Greenhouse growers can use Toyota 2, Xingke 4, and Xingke 6 for early summer or late autumn planting. Next, the planting method and density play a key role in yield and quality. The approach for growing squareless watermelons is similar to that of regular watermelons. Farmers typically use open ground creeping vines, with more than 200 plants per acre. The row spacing is set at 2.5 meters, while the plant spacing is 1.2 meters. No pruning or spurging is required, and each plant should have 20–30 sticks, with 7–8 flowers and 4–5 fruits per plant. Mold design is another critical aspect. The molds are made in cube shapes, measuring 15–20 cm on each side. They must be transparent, ventilated, leak-proof, and resistant to swelling. There are three types of molds: 1) Direct injection molding by glass factories based on specifications; 2) Organic glass cut to size and fixed with bolts; 3) Angles and glass materials assembled with bolts. When selecting the melon mold, it's best to apply it after pollination. For seedless watermelons, the mold should be placed vertically on the fruit’s stem. The second and third types of molds should be applied 15 days after pollination. Choose healthy plants with moderate-sized fruits, round shapes, and uniform color. When removing the mold, handle the watermelon gently, avoid touching the stem, and place it on a small raised platform above the ground. After 5–7 days of field management, the mold should remain stable. It should then be flipped every 3–5 days to ensure even growth. Fertilizer and irrigation management must be strict, with increased organic fertilizer use and biological pesticides to maintain AA-grade green food standards. Harvesting occurs 15–20 days after ripening. The watermelon is packaged without any external wrapping. During harvest, leave 3–5 leaves on the vine, carefully remove the mold and vines from the field, and place them on a carpeted table. Open the mold with gloves, store the watermelon in a cool, dry place for 2–3 hours, then remove the petiole, leaves, and extra shoots, keeping 2–3 guava vines. Place the watermelon in a foam mesh bag, tie it in boxes, stack 3–4 boxes per layer, surround the box with foam board, add ventilation holes, and seal for transport.
