In early autumn, as the forage grass begins to produce seeds, it's essential to manage grazing and feeding carefully. During this time, ensure that sheep have access to high-quality pasture while avoiding overgrazing. In late fall, keep the flock warm and avoid grazing in fields treated with pesticides, as chemical residues can be harmful.
During the day, provide sheep with regular feeding, and at night, offer a balanced amount of nutritious, palatable feed. For pregnant ewes, adjust their diet based on the stage of pregnancy. In mid-pregnancy, feed 0.2 to 0.3 kg of concentrate daily, and increase this to 0.45 to 1 kg in the later stages. Each month, add 0.5 kg of concentrate, and during the middle of the feeding period, provide 0.3 kg more. Ensure they receive 0.7 kg of total feed per day to support healthy development.
To improve the physical condition of ewes before mating, especially in the fall, increase the intake of green forage or silage to maintain optimal body condition. For ewes not showing estrus, administer chorionic gonadotropin (500–2000 IU) once or twice to stimulate heat. To enhance ram fertility, provide a diet rich in protein, vitamins, and energy, and ensure adequate water intake.
Avoid feeding sheep on an empty stomach with cold water, as it can cause digestive issues. Prevent stress in pregnant ewes by keeping them calm and avoiding sudden movements or overcrowding, especially during feeding times. Do not allow them to engage in strenuous activities like running or jumping. Also, avoid vaccination during late pregnancy to reduce the risk of complications.
Before breeding season, implement strict biosecurity measures. Vaccinate the flock to prevent infectious diseases. Keep the sheep shelter clean, remove leftover feed regularly, and maintain dry and hygienic conditions. Disinfect the area frequently and brush the sheep’s coat regularly to improve circulation and immunity. If any sheep shows signs of illness, treat it promptly to prevent the spread of disease.
