Raise oilseed rape tips

Rapeseed oil production typically only reaches about 30%. However, by following these practical tips, you can boost the oil yield by up to 25%. Here’s how.
First, sand contamination is a common issue during processing. If not removed, it absorbs oil and reduces the overall yield. Always sieve the rapeseed before starting the process to eliminate any sand or debris that could lower efficiency.
When cooking the seeds in a pan, it's important to control the heat properly. Many people leave the fire high all the time, which causes the seeds to stick to the bottom and burn. This not only damages the quality of the oil but also reduces the yield. To prevent this, when the seeds are nearly ready (about 80% cooked), switch to a lower flame. A good technique is to build a movable groove on the stove wall and insert an iron plate. When you need high heat, lift the plate to seal the firebox. For simmering, lower the plate to control airflow and maintain steady, even heating.
Another effective method involves using the modified crushed screw with the 95-type horizontal shaft oil press. Replacing the old No. 6 crushed screw for the No. 5 one increases internal pressure and shifts the oil exit point by 8–10 cm. This small modification can result in an additional 1–2 kg of oil per 100 kg of rapeseed.
Temperature plays a key role in oil extraction. Rapeseed should be pressed while still hot, as the oil molecules are most active at higher temperatures. After frying, the seeds should be around 108°C. To ensure optimal pressing, limit the amount per batch to 40–50 kg. This allows the hot seeds to be pressed immediately, maximizing oil recovery.
Adding a small amount of adulterated rapeseed meal can improve flow during pressing. However, if the meal is too dry or not mixed well, it may cause the oil to escape before being fully extracted. To avoid this, mix 5–7 kg of glutinous rice per 100 kg of rapeseed. The rice helps bind the seeds together, improving the pressing process. Make sure the rice is fresh and free from impurities. Sieving the ash is also recommended for better results.
Additionally, adding a small amount of corn syrup can slow down the movement of the seeds, allowing more time for oil to be squeezed out. Finally, mixing the oiled residue back into the mash and pressing it again can further increase the total oil yield. These small adjustments can make a big difference in the overall efficiency of your rapeseed oil production.
