Rapeseed oil extraction typically yields only around 30%. However, by following these practical tips, you can boost the oil yield by up to 25%. Here’s how: First, it's important to sieve out sand before processing. Sand tends to absorb some of the oil during the extraction process, which reduces the overall yield. By removing the sand beforehand, you ensure a cleaner and more efficient pressing. Next, when frying rapeseed in a pan, it's crucial to control the heat properly. If the fire is too high, the seeds can stick to the bottom of the pan and burn, reducing the quality and quantity of the oil. To avoid this, once the seeds are about 80% cooked, open the top of the stove and close the lower air vent. This allows for better temperature control. A simple way to do this is by installing a movable groove on the stove wall with an adjustable iron plate. When you need a strong fire, lift the plate to seal the furnace opening; when simmering, lower the plate to regulate airflow. Another effective method involves using a modified crushed screw with a 95-type horizontal shaft oil press. Replacing the old No. 6 crushed screw with the No. 5 version increases internal pressure and shifts the oil exit point by 8–10 cm. This small adjustment can increase oil yield by 1–2 kg per 100 kg of rapeseed. Temperature plays a key role in oil extraction. Rapeseed that has just been fried reaches about 108°C, which is ideal for pressing. To maintain this temperature, it's best to fry 40–50 kg of seeds per batch. This ensures that the hot material is efficiently pressed, maximizing oil recovery. Additionally, adding a small amount of adulterated rapeseed meal with high oil content can help improve flow during pressing. However, if the meal is too dry or not well blended, it may cause the oil to be squeezed out too quickly, leading to lower yields. To prevent this, mix 5–7 kg of glutinous rice per 100 kg of rapeseed. The rice helps bind the seeds together, allowing for more complete oil extraction. Make sure the rice is fresh, clean, and sieved to remove any impurities. Finally, adding a small amount of corn syrup can slow down the pressing process, allowing more time for oil to be extracted. Combining this with the mashed seeds and pressing them together in the center of the press can further enhance the oil yield. By implementing these techniques, you can significantly improve the efficiency and output of your rapeseed oil production.
