Grape fruit basket storage and freshness preservation method

The fruit baskets used for storing grapes should be durable and sturdy, such as wooden crates, rigid plastic containers, or strong woven baskets. The size of the baskets should not be too large, ideally holding between 10 to 15 kilograms of grapes to ensure proper handling and ventilation. Each basket should be lined with paper or waxed paper to protect the grapes from moisture and physical damage. The grape clusters should be arranged in layers, placed on a slanted tray to allow for even distribution and prevent bruising. Each layer should be covered with sterilized packaging paper—previously treated with either 0.5% bleach or 0.7% peracetic acid—to maintain hygiene and extend shelf life.
Once the basket is filled, a hard cover should be placed on top to protect the contents during transport and storage. The baskets should then be stored in a cool cellar or kiln room, where temperature and humidity can be controlled. For stacking, a single-basket pallet is recommended, but two baskets can also be stacked if necessary. A piece of wood should be placed between the baskets to allow for air circulation and prevent mold growth. Additionally, there must be a clear walking path between the pallets to facilitate easy inspection and maintenance. This method ensures that the grapes remain fresh and of high quality throughout the storage period.
