Sprayer cleaning

Before applying two types of pesticides that are incompatible or should not be mixed, it is essential to thoroughly clean the sprayer. Failure to do so can significantly reduce the effectiveness of the pesticides and may lead to phytotoxicity, causing unnecessary damage to crops and financial loss. Here’s a detailed cleaning procedure:
1. For plastic barrel sprayers, start by filling the tank with 5% hot alkali water (water temperature above 60°C), ensuring all parts of the sprayer are fully saturated. Shake the sprayer every 10 minutes for about 2 to 3 hours. Afterward, drain the alkaline solution and rinse the sprayer with clean water 2 to 4 times. This helps remove any residual chemicals and prevents contamination.
2. For iron barrel sprayers, first pour a 1% ferrous sulfate solution (commonly known as "black water") into the tank and let it soak for 2 hours. Then, rinse the sprayer with water 2 to 4 times. Alternatively, you can also use hot alkali water (as described in step 1) for 1 hour, followed by rinsing with hot alkali water and then washing with clean water 4 to 5 times. This method is especially effective for removing stubborn residues.
In addition, sprayers used for herbicides often have difficulty being completely cleaned, which can lead to long-term phytotoxic effects on crops. These residual chemicals may affect plant growth and even reduce yield over time. To avoid this, it's highly recommended to use dedicated sprayers specifically for herbicides and keep them separate from other pesticide applications. Proper maintenance and cleaning not only ensure better performance but also protect the health of your crops in the long run.
