Sprayer cleaning

Before applying two different pesticides that are incompatible or should not be mixed, it is essential to thoroughly clean the sprayer. Failure to do so can significantly reduce the effectiveness of the pesticides and may lead to phytotoxicity, causing damage to crops and resulting in unnecessary losses. Here’s a detailed cleaning procedure: 1. For a plastic barrel sprayer, first fill the tank with 5% hot alkali water (water temperature above 60°C) and let it sit for a few minutes. Shake the sprayer every 10 minutes. After 2 to 3 hours, drain the alkaline solution. Then rinse the sprayer with clean water 2 to 4 times until the water runs clear. 2. For an iron barrel sprayer, start by pouring a 1% ferrous sulfate solution (also known as black water) into the tank and let it soak for about 2 hours. Afterward, rinse the sprayer with water 2 to 4 times. Alternatively, you can also soak the sprayer in hot alkali water (as described in the previous step) for 1 hour, then rinse with hot alkali water followed by several rinses with clean water—ideally 4 to 5 times. It's also important to note that sprayers used for herbicides often leave residues that are difficult to remove completely. These residues can cause long-term phytotoxic effects on crops, which may affect plant growth and ultimately reduce yield. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to use dedicated sprayers for herbicides to avoid cross-contamination and ensure optimal performance. Always follow proper cleaning procedures after each use to maintain the efficiency and safety of your spraying equipment.
