Tea tree mushroom cultivation techniques

Cultivation Techniques of Agrocybe Mushroom (Agrocybe aegerita)

Agrocybe aegerita, commonly known as the columnar head mushroom, poplar mushroom, liu mushroom, or columnar ring rust umbrella, is a popular edible fungus cultivated in various regions. Its cultivation can be divided into spring and autumn planting depending on the season. Currently, large-scale production is widely practiced in provinces like Guangdong, Fujian, and Jiangxi. Below are some key techniques for high-yield cultivation:

1. Selecting High-Quality Strains: The first step is to choose high-yield and high-quality varieties. It's important to use original strains or well-established cultivars, preferably with wheat seeds as the base. Proper seed preparation is essential, and using bacteria of moderate age ensures better performance.

2. Scientific Substrate Formulation: A recommended formula includes 40% sawdust, 30% cottonseed husk, 18% wheat bran, 6% tea seed cake, 5% corn flour, 1% gypsum powder, and 60% moisture content. If tea seed cake is unavailable, you can increase wheat bran and corn flour slightly, or substitute with bean cake. Fermenting the sawdust and cottonseed husks using agents like Golden Treasure before mixing can improve bag sterilization. With this formula, the conversion rate can exceed 90%.

3. Strict Inoculation Procedures: Increasing the amount of inoculum is crucial. When inoculating, avoid making the culture too crumbly to ensure proper colonization. Inoculate the bags while they are still warm to reduce contamination risks.

4. Mushroom Management: During the germination phase, monitor temperature closely and turn the bags regularly to prevent overheating. Once the mycelium covers the surface, open the bags or ventilate them to speed up hyphal growth. During fruiting, maintain high humidity to support fruit body development. Keep the growing area clean to prevent pests. If insects appear, use pyrethrin sprays or hang dichlorvos balls. Also, ensure good ventilation to avoid bacterial infection and high COâ‚‚ levels that may cause abnormal fruit bodies.

5. Timely Rehydration: Rehydration is critical for maximizing yield. After the second flush of mushrooms, the substrate becomes dry, so water must be added. Use a diluted solution similar to a nutrient solution for rehydration. Start rehydration from the second harvest, and repeat it after each flush.
