Agrocybe aegerita, commonly known as the columnar head mushroom, poplar mushroom, or liu mushroom, is a popular edible fungus widely cultivated in China. It is typically divided into spring and autumn planting seasons based on the cultivation timing. Currently, large-scale production is mainly concentrated in Guangdong, Fujian, and Jiangxi provinces. 1. Selecting High-Quality Strains: The first step in successful cultivation is choosing high-yield and high-quality strains. It's important to use original species or well-established cultivars, preferably with wheat seeds as the base. The seedlings should be of moderate age to ensure good growth and strong colonization.

2. Formulating the Substrate Properly: A recommended formula includes 40% sawdust, 30% cottonseed hulls, 18% wheat bran, 6% tea seed cake, 5% corn flour, 1% gypsum, and 60% moisture. If tea seed cake is unavailable, you can increase the amount of wheat bran and corn flour slightly, or substitute with bean cake. Fermenting the sawdust and cottonseed hulls using a fermentation agent like golden treasure before mixing can improve the quality and sterilization process. This formula can achieve a conversion rate of over 90%.

3. Strict Inoculation Procedures: Increasing the inoculum amount helps speed up mycelium growth. When inoculating, avoid making the culture too dry or crumbly to ensure proper colonization. Inoculation should be done while the bags are still warm, which helps reduce contamination risk.

4. Managing the Growing Environment: During the germination phase, monitor the temperature closely. If it gets too high, turn the bags regularly to prevent overheating. Once the mycelium covers the surface, open the bags or ventilate to accelerate fruiting body development. Maintaining high humidity is essential during the fruiting stage to support mushroom formation. Keep the growing area clean to prevent pests. If insects appear, use pyrethrin sprays or hang dichlorvos balls in the field. Also, ensure proper ventilation to avoid bacterial infections and high COâ‚‚ levels that could cause abnormal fruiting bodies.

5. Timely Water Replenishment: After the second flush of mushrooms, the substrate becomes very dry, so rehydration is crucial. Use a diluted solution similar to a "garodeurine" to provide moisture.
