How to deal with stress? University of Sydney Study: Eat more vegetables

Researchers at the University of Sydney studied data on 60,000 Australians over the age of 45, including fruit and vegetable consumption, lifestyle, and psychological stress. The study was conducted in two time periods, 2006-2008 and 2010 respectively.

According to the study, people who ate 3 to 4 servings of vegetables per day had a 12% lower risk of stress than those who ate only 1 serving or even no vegetables per day. Eating 5 to 7 vegetables a day would put this risk at risk. 14% lower. The study is based on past findings that deep-colored green vegetables are rich in folic acid and can promote more emotional stabilizers such as dopamine and serotonin in the brain.

The first author of the study, PhD student of the University of Sydney, said: "We found that fruits and vegetables have a stronger protective effect on women than men." Women who eat 3 to 4 servings of vegetables a day are at greater risk of stress than they are on a daily basis. One woman who did not even eat vegetables lost 18%; for women who eat 5 to 7 servings of vegetables a day, this figure is 23%.

However, the study also showed that eating fruits alone did not seem to significantly reduce stress. In addition, eating 7 or more fruits and vegetables does not reduce stress further.
