Using embryo transfer to shorten the sheep's improvement cycle

The embryos of the world's excellent rams were introduced into the uterus of native-born goats in China by high-tech means. The offspring produced were purebred dolls. This achievement, chaired by Prof. Li Wu of Northeast Agricultural University, has passed the appraisal of relevant experts from the State Science and Technology Commission. Experts believe that this technical achievement has provided a convenient channel for shortening the cycle of improved varieties and improving the prevalence of high-quality mutton sheep and velvet sheep, and it has taken a leading position in China. With the development of animal husbandry, although the population of domestically produced sheep has reached a considerable scale, the cashmere production rate and yield of native sheep are still less than 1/2 that of foreign elite sheep. If we directly introduce foreign varieties to improve the quality of our indigenous sheep breeds, not only the cost is too high, the cycle is too long, and the popularity is also small. Researchers from the College of Animal Science and Technology of Northeast Agricultural University, Li Wu, and other researchers have found through long-term research that if foreign embryos are transplanted into the uterus of domestic sheep, embryos can survive completely. Moreover, it has nothing to do with its Chinese "mother" after its growth, but it is exactly the same as its foreign "parents." At present, using this research result, an enterprise in Mudanjiang City has bred more than 2,000 Australian Dixel and Canada Oselli and other five fine breed sheep. At the same time, several hundred embryos were transplanted in some cities (counties) such as Daqing and Harbin, and the success rate of frozen embryo transplantation was 54%.
