Chinese scientists successfully clone pig kidney gene

Recently, researchers from the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture of the Chinese Academy of Sciences successfully cloned the type II sodium ion-dependent phosphorus transporter a (NaPi-IIa) gene in pig kidneys and submitted the full sequence to GeneBank (gene number: DQ173927). The pig NaPi-IIa gene has 89% nucleic acid sequence homology with human and mouse NaPi-IIa gene and 91% amino acid sequence homology. Mammals have a complex system of phosphorus transport, mainly based on the type I sodium ions rely on phosphorus transporter (NaPi-I), type II sodium ions rely on phosphorus transfer carrier (NaPi-II) and type III non-sodium dependent on phosphorus transport carrier ( NaPi-III). NaPi-IIa is specifically expressed in the kidney and is located on the brush border membrane of renal tubular epithelial cells and plays a role in reabsorption of phosphorus. The cloning of this gene lays a foundation for the further study of phosphorus absorption and metabolism and the molecular mechanism of regulation, thereby regulating the utilization of phosphorus in pigs and reducing the damage to the water resources and the ecological environment in the pig industry.
