Autumn planting fruit trees

The advantages of fruit trees planted in the autumn, such as rooting, high survival rate, and sprouting in the following year have been recognized by the vast number of fruit farmers. However, there are still some problems to be paid attention to in autumn.

Do not plant deeply. Autumn planting fruit trees, after the natural leaves, before freezing for the appropriate period. As the saying goes, “Shallow planting trees are prosperous and deep trees are weak”. Autumn planting of fruit trees should not be too deep. It is advisable to match the roots of fruit trees with the ground. Root-neck is the junction of the ground and underground parts of the fruit tree, and is the only way to get nutrient up and down the whole tree. The root neck enters dormancy at the latest in the fall and releases dormancy at the earliest in the spring, and is most sensitive to changes in environmental conditions. Therefore, the root neck should not be buried too deep or exposed to the ground. Persimmons, jujubes, chestnuts, big cherries, grapes, etc. are not suitable for conventional autumn planting, and it is best to cultivate in the buds during the sprouting period in the spring.

Immerse water and wrap the membrane before planting. Fruit trees soaked in fresh water for 1 to 2 days before planting can increase survival. Due to the phenomenon of stagnation of northern fruit trees in winter, the fruit trees can be wrapped before the planting to maintain moisture and prevent stripping. It is best to use a 0.004 mm plastic film.

Irrigation after planting. After planting, it must be filled with water in a timely manner. Water should be irrigated once every 7-10 days, and water should be poured before freezing.
